From the 1st of February 2023, the Victorian government is banning some single-use plastic items. Many single-use plastic items are economically not viable to recycle and eventually end up contaminating the holistic recycling system. By banning these items, the aim is to reduce plastic pollution across the state.

The ban applies to single-use plastic drinking straws, cutlery, plates, drink stirrers and cotton bud sticks made from conventional, degradable, and compostable plastics. The ban also applies to food service items and drink containers made from expanded polystyrene.

It is the responsibility of all Victorian businesses and organisations to comply with the Regulations and advise against Victorian customers purchasing the above mentioned items.
